Helluva Boss, Season 1, Episode 0 – Pilot: Review

Helluva Boss

Season 1 - Episode 0

"Pilot"

What a debut!  I thought Hazbin Hotel was a Blockbuster, I only see great things coming from Vivziepop with this franchise.  The Helliverse is going to be huge with the dialog and the animation style this show is going to provide.

I never really watched Invader Zim but I recognize the iconic voice of Richard Horvitz… why?  Because he’s Alpha-fucking-5 from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.  And Dag from Angry Beavers!  Billy from Billy & Mandy… I could go on, but I’m hooked with Moxxy already.

Blitzo (the O is silent) is another amazing character who quite literally fucked himself into his business.  Having taking the Grimoire while a satisfied Stolas sleeps.  Brandon Rogers voices Blitz and I can’t quite put my finger on it, but his voice sounds familiar, either that or he landed on a voice for that character that I’m absolutely in love with.

Millie is adorable.  I might have a new cartoon crush too.  Erica Lindbeck voices her and I’m not too familiar with her work except for noticing (thanks to IMDB) that she did the voice for Black Cat in the Spider-Man DLC.  Much different in this series though, more up-beat, high pitched and southern.  I certainly dig it!

Loona– oh shit… Erica pulling double-duty!  And kind of funny the two characters have tension in the show.  Talk about fighting with yourself.  I’m not a fan of the Furry craze storming the nation for the better part of a decade but I’m getting the feeling that the design of this character is loosely based off it.  I’m guessing Loona is a hell-hound considering the show takes place in Hell, but I could be wrong.  I love how Millie and Moxxie only see Loona as a co-worker (and a piss poor one at that) but clearly she’s the adopted daughter of Blitzo.

Stolas… um… for being a “Prince of Hell” has a potty mouth.  And for words like “Shit, Fuck and Re… um… the slang for the differently abled” being used in the show but whatever the hell he was saying to Blitz to be censored… I’m wondering if that’s a gimmick or even the editor thought it was a bit much, either way, pure comedy gold, especially when Blitz got so offended he broke his phone, shattered it, blended it, made Loona drink it and told her to shit off a Bridge after… seems like even Blitz has limits.

By the way… Stolas is based on a Great Prince of Hell of the same name from the Ars Goetia chapter of the The Lesser Key of Solomon demonology grimoire, who is also depicted as a crowned owl with long legs.

This episode just serves as a quick introduction to the characters and the business they provide, but I’m hooked.  I can’t wait to see what happens from here!

Apparently Moxxie “missed” a shot and caught a kid instead of the intended target.  After not knowing what Insurance was, they properly left the Human Hospital with the Child and took him to hell, which we didn’t realize until after the team imploded on itself.  From there the kid rips into the staff of I.M.P. much like a insult comic tears into the audience.  Loona then receives a text message stating that the kid was indeed the actual target and no mistake was made.  They finish the job, literally cut the body up (ala Dexter) and dispose of the body back into the real world in the arms of the mother.  Kind of fucked up, but they did they’re job I guess.
