Secret Wars Trailer Review

Now before I begin, I have to first address something.  When it comes to Comic Books, I’m sorry, DC Comics is MUCH more interesting of a read to me.  However!  MARVEL decimates the competition when it comes to movies.

So read that again, because I don’t want people thinking I’m bashing MARVEL over DC, that’s far from the case.  But I don’t really know ANYTHING about the Secret Invasion story from the comic books to make any direct comparisons to, but I’m going to do my research and do my best.

What I have gathered is that the storyline had Skrulls (which I thought were the Good Guys from Captain Marvel) take the place of several known superheroes to take over Earth which they believe is rightfully theirs.

Since this is a Mini-Series production, I seriously doubt we will see the likes of ANY established Superhero nor any brief cameos from Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., or Chris Hemsworth.

I also seriously doubt this will spark the death of Wasp (seeing she’s a key character in the future Ant-Man 3 movie) nor an appearance from Mr. Fantastic (seeing that in the comics he created a device that can discover which person is actually an Alien in Disguise).

But let’s begin looking at this trailer.

Mush like any old Alien type of movies, a beam of light seems fitting for the intro.  I love how the outline of Fury looks like what people have depicted aliens to look like in the past.  In fact I think The Simpsons had an episode where Mr. Burns depicted an alien in the same shape.  In any case, the REAL Nick Fury has returned to Earth.

He meets up with Maria Hill in what looks like a Russian tavern of some kind.  Maria stating she’s been trying to get Nick Fury’s attention for some time now and all of sudden, whatever it is she called about now, caught his attention.

Side note, truly how long as Nick Fury been gone?  The Maria and Fury that were dusted while paging Captain Marvel, was that really Soren & Talos respectfully?

This scene reminded me of both The Matrix and the Michael Bay version of “The Island”.  Are these dead aliens?  Are these the Super-Skrulls that is offered in the Comic Book version of this story?  Are these two members of Shield that will get some screen time, or are these a bunch of Red Shirts?

In one of the most Badass scenes in the trailer shows Keller (or Talos maybe) interrogating (whoever Kingsley Ben-Adir is playing) and several on-lookers turn into other Kingsley Ben-Adir’s.  The tone, transformation and the look of fear in Ben Mendelsohn’s eyes sells this scene.

There’s even a brief moment where Kingsley Ben-Adir raises his hand as if to tell the others to stand down, meaning this one in particular is the one in charge.

I was taken aback slightly with this scene considering it’s clearly in “Russia” and there are explosions.  I get this is a different universe but with everything going on now… ehhh… but I digress.  Whatever it is the Skrulls or maybe even the returning Kree are after, is sought out with absolute no regard to human life.

Another interrogation… this one more off-putting than the other.  This one showing Olivia Colman with a needle in her hand.  I thought this was a bad guy until I read that she’s supposed to play an ally of Nick Fury.  Maybe this is an evil Skrull about to be injected with some nasty concoction.

Why do they always take place in a meat locker… should I not trust my meat from the counter anymore?

Here’s something I’m wondering nerds are not talking more about.  This secret item in the briefcase marked “A-R4.”  I tried looking it up and I can’t find anything, but I’m just surprised that the Marvel Conspiracy Theorists aren’t dissecting this further and diving into Comic Books with “R4” or anything like this.  This might be what it’s all about people… come on nerds, start digging.

Oh look, another weird door opening, brief looking scene.  This time someone is really trying to break into some kind of container.  I seriously cannot wait for this show, I’m a bit of a Spy-Noir fan, so I really hope it’s one of those stories were there is a piece of the puzzle in every episode and the reveal flashes back to those precise moments giving this show re-watchability.

Oh look, an angry Skrull.  You know in the comics there was a main Skrull the story revolved around.  They were a Princess and this… um… doesn’t look like one… nevermind.  By the way… did Jessica Jones and Luke Cage ever conceive a child in their TV Shows?  No reason why I’m asking… just hope nobody tries to abduct it in this show…

The final shot shows the Nick Fury we know and love.  Why is he wearing the eye patch again?  Maybe this is the device that shows him who’s-who?  Or maybe this is a Skrull as well?  Hmmm… well this wasn’t much of a review… why?  Because this trailer might as well have been called a Teaser, it barely gave us ANY information at all.
